A recent study conducted on behalf of the American Water Works Association found that nearly three-in-four people perceive their home’s tap water as safe. “It’s good to see the vast majority of people have confidence in both their tap water and their water utility,” said AWWA CEO David LaFrance. “At the same time, we have work to do to gain and maintain trust in tap water, especially in communities where historical inequities have existed. With affordability challenges rising, focusing on disadvantaged communities is even more important.”
Our nation has taken great strides to ensure safe drinking water for all, but there is more work to be done. In the United States, our water quality is threatened by aging infrastructure, waterborne diseases, and emerging contaminants. Addressing these challenges and providing a safe and reliable tap water supply that all Americans feel confident in must remain a top priority for policymakers.
