The Guardian’s recent article sheds light on the importance of prioritizing risks to better ensure public health protection. Drinking water regulations must be prioritized to achieve the public health benefit protection for the most amount of people. With limited federal funding, attempting to achieve extremely low levels of PFAS in drinking water will take away necessary funding and attention to the critical problem of aging water infrastructure across the nation.
“Before spending billions of dollars to reduce imperceptibly low risks to even lower levels, we should surely consider whether billions could alternatively be spent in a way that achieves real and observable public health outcomes.”
